Wamuchomba gives Ruto 3 days to act or lose support over allies' hate speech remarks

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has asked President William Ruto to take action against his allies, making inflammatory remarks to which she will reconsider her support for him.

Wamuchomba said that it was unfortunate that some powerful individuals who are close to the President were making hate speech with no action taken against them citing the case of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

The Githunguri MP  said that she had personally engaged the President privately over the conduct of some leaders close to him and that the latest case of Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina threatening communities perceived to be against Ruto’s re-election was unfortunate.

“If we are not going to see action taken against those involved in making inflammatory remarks like Duale and Wainaina in three days, we will have no option but to walk away from the Ruto regime when he needs us the most, " said Wamuchomba on Monday.

The Githunguri MP said that the buck stops with President Ruto who has promised severally that never again will the country slide again to anarchy like what was witnessed in 2007 and that he should call to order all those preaching hate speech especially those allied to him.

Wamuchomba called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to act swiftly and apprehend Wainaina for gross violation of the Constitution terming his unfortunate remarks as likely to trigger violence during election in the volatile Rift Valley region.

The Githunguri MP said that there should be no selective justice as far as handling of hate speech remarks was concerned and that all those who make them should be made to face justice wondering why Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was arrested while others are free.

 “We reject any political arrangement that seeks to pocket voters into tribal groupings, Kenya is one indivisible democratic Nation, no matter whom I support this is unacceptable, we should not allow Duale and Wainaina to get away with their inciting remarks," said Wamuchomba.

Wamuchomba condemned the violence witnessed during public rallies where bullets and teargas have been the order of the day wondering whether some individuals want to see a civil war in this country and that as a woman leader, she was greatly perturbed with what was happening.

She accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for being the weakest link in ensuring law and order was maintained and shielding those who make inflammatory remarks and are allied to the government will target those who are in the opposition.

“Murkomen is handling the security docket politically, he is the wrong person to hold that crucial docket as the country heads to the general election since the manner he is running it is likely to be a recipe for chaos during the general election period,” said Wamuchomba.

The Githunguri MP said that the challenges facing our youth which include unemployment, economic growth and development do not have a tribe and that our politics must be defined by ideas, manifestos and track records not by ethnic calculations.

Wamuchomba said that all political leaders should be held accountable over their utterances since they hold some influence over their supporters pointing out that we have only one country and that if it slides to anarchy, we all stand to suffer.

"Our strength lies in diversity not in isolation, anyone seeking to draw tribal lines across our counties is an enemy of progress, we must reject the ethnic balkanization of our Nation for negative purposes, " said Wamuchomba.
